Mupirocin Ointment is available under the brand name “MUPIBIK” and is a new-generation topical antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial skin infection ‘impetigo’ caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. A bacterial infection refers to a state where bacteria multiply within the body and infect it. It affects any part of the body and many at a very fast rate.
Mupirocin Ointment inhibits protein production required for bacterial surveillance. It is active against Gram-negative bacteria like Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae as well. Nevertheless, it has no effect against fungal or viral infections and cannot be used on burnt skin surface and open-cut wounds.
